Hillside Piranhas
Swim Team

ALL LESSONS WILL RUN MONDAY - THURSDAY.  
THERE WILL BE 3 SESSIONS THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER.
  **Little Piranhas has one session that runs the entirety of 3 sessions**
Weather related cancellations will be made up the Friday of the week the cancellation took place.

No class July 4th makeup class Friday July 8th)

Guppy lessons 10:00-10:30 am ( 8 sessions)
Small Fry lessons 10:30-11:00 am ( 8 sessions)

COST FOR LESSONS

The cost for swim lessons at Hillside is $85.00 for members of the pool, and $95.00 for non members for Small Fry and Guppy.
The cost of Little Piranhas is $100.00 dollars.
The cost covers an entire session

Hillside has a swim team that competes in the Tri-County Swim league.  Each season there are 5 dual meets and Championship meets for different age groups.

Swim team is a great place to meet new friends, get in shape.  Many kids and parents alike have made lifelong friends by becoming part of a swim team family.

Registration is currently happening right now for the 2022 summer season.  

Even if you aren't the fastest swimmer right now, don't be afraid to come try out the team!

Small Fries

The Beginner, or Small Fry swim program is for children who are ready to learn the very basics of swimming.  It is a shallow water class.  This is a class for children who enjoy the water but do not yet know how, or feel insecure about putting their body in a prone position to swim or float on their own.  They might not be putting their face in the water yet.  It is not a class for a child who is fearful of the water.

Basic Skills to be practiced as a Small Fry

  • Becoming familiar with putting their face in the water by blowing bubbles and bobbing
  • gaining confidence with floating on the back and belly
  • Learning how to kick properly to produce forward momentum
  • learning how to glide off the wall to begin a swim stroke
  • Learning basic stroke movements to produce rudimentary freestyle and back stroke.
  • Basic water safety

Guppies

The Advanced beginner or Guppy swim program is for children who have some of the very basics of swimming.  It is both taught in shallow and some deep water.  Children at this level enjoy being in the pool and will put their face in the water.  They can demonstrate basic forward momentum in some way, but haven't put all the pieces of swimming together.  They can push themselves off the pool floor to begin "swimming" on their front and back.

Basic Skills to be practiced as a Guppy

  • learning how to properly synchronize breathing when swimming.  
  • Perfecting kicking to produce forward momentum
  • Practicing a more realistic version of freestyle and back stroke. 
  • gaining endurance and strength in the pool.  
  • Learning how to properly submerge to dive downward while swimming
  • Beginning dives
  • Basic water safety

Little Piranhas

Intermediate or Little Piranha program is for children who may be interested in moving on to the swim team.  These children have the basics of swimming freestyle and basic backstroke but still need time to develop endurance, perfect their strokes, and become a better diver.  The end of this group of lessons culminates in an exhibition swim during the last home swim meet of the season(during the first 4 weeks of lessons).   All children at this level are welcome to be in this swim group and do not necessarily have to commit to the swim team after this level is completed.  

Basic Skills to be practiced as a 
Little Piranha

  • Building of endurance by practicing swimming in deeper water
  • Perfecting kicks and breathing with kick-board drills
  • Perfecting synchronized breathing during the stroke
  • practicing starts by gliding off the wall front and back
  • Diving
  • Beginning of butterfly kick and arms
  • Beginning of breaststroke
  • Basic water safety
